Pleasant Township, Marion County, is one of the premier residential locations in Central Ohio. The people of Pleasant Township enjoy a mostly residential community with 2 local golf courses, one of the top public school districts in Ohio, a park, 5 cemeteries, several churches and a Senior Citizens Center. Pleasant Township is served by a 35 member fire department. The government of Pleasant Township includes three township trustees and a fiscal officer, who are elected to serve four-year terms.
There are also several boards and committees that fulfill various roles on behalf of the township. These include a zoning commission, a zoning appeals board, and a park committee. Townships are recognized as one of America’s first forms of government, being able to accomplish more for less tax dollars than any other form of local government. Although township officials fill their offices on a part-time basis, they are always available, ready to meet their responsibilities face-to face, and able to deal with modern problems because of their intimate knowledge of the community, its needs and its people.
Today, township residents are demanding a new type of rural government. This means that good roads must be built for year round travel, fire protection must be adequate, and zoning and other regulations must be established to encourage and protect the growing townships throughout Ohio.
